Fagan Design is deeply committed to the preservation and restoration of historic buildings, bringing both technical expertise and thoughtful stewardship to culturally significant properties. The firm’s foundation includes early professional experience within Newport’s preservation community and collaboration with design practices focused on historic rehabilitation.

Over the past fifteen years, the firm has facilitated multiple historic tax credit projects, preparing and coordinating National Park Service nomination submissions that have successfully placed properties on the National Register of Historic Places. This work has helped property owners preserve historic character while leveraging available funding opportunities. The firm has also maintained active involvement in the preservation community, including service on the Newport Historic District Commission and participation on the Doris Duke Preservation Award Committee.

In 2019, Fagan Design Build Studio received a Doris Duke Preservation Award for the restoration of the Stone Barn Carriage House at 23 Hammersmith Farm Road in Newport, recognition of the firm’s commitment to preservation excellence and long-term stewardship.
