ABOUT FAGAN DESIGN'S ARCHITECTURE WORK
Fagan Design is an architectural consulting firm that is based in Newport Rhode Island. As a studio, we work to design buildings and manage the development of construction projects for residential and commercial clients. Our work has been described as both having a modern and coastal style, with an attention to traditional historic details. The studio was established by Chris Fagan in 2008. Today it has grown to include a diverse network of design partners and consultants. What separates Fagan Design from other architectural studios is its close relationship to the construction process and its overall “Design-Build” approach. Fagan Design will frequently act as an owner's representative throughout the design, permitting and build phases of a project. We are always excited to collaborate on unique projects that require innovative design solutions.
CUSTOM HOME DESIGNS:
Fagan Design specializes in the design and construction management of high-end custom homes. The designs strive to express the best aspects of coastal New England architecture, utilizing a mix of traditional forms with modern minimalist detailing. This architecture has been described as a mix of traditional residential shingle style and modern farmhouse, creating a graphic language that is both innovative and timeless. In every project the design of the home is hand crafted to the unique program needs and personality of the client.
RENOVATIONS:
FDBS has worked on numerous successful renovation projects, revitalizing older homes into dynamic new spaces for modern living. The firm specifically works with homeowners to articulate a design approach that will provide the most benefit in terms of both space and investment.
HISTORIC PRESERVATION:
FDBS takes great pride in working to preserve and restore historic buildings. Specifically, Chris Fagan has a great deal of experience with historic preservation. He started his career interning at the Preservation Society of Newport County. He then went on to work for 3 years in preservation architecture at Newport Collaborative Architects. Over the past 15 years, Chris has facilitated the development of multiple historic tax credit projects writing numerous National Parks Services historic nomination papers. This process has added multiple properties to the National Register of Historic Properties. Chris served on the both Newport Historic District Commission for over 5 years and the Doris Duke Preservation Award committee for 2 years. Most recently, in 2019, Fagan Design Build Studio won a Doris Duke Preservation Award for its restoration of the stone barn carriage house 23 Hammersmith Farm Road in Newport.
COMMERCIAL DESIGN:
FDBS frequently works with commercial clients to design custom spaces and buildings. Past projects include designs for restaurants, bars, grocery stores, function centers, hotels, offices, retail spaces, a Shell rapid lube, and a Pearl carwash, retail dispensaries, commercial grow facilities, agricultural buildings and breweries. In every case, FDBS works to develop a unique design and a dynamic program that will meet the individual client's needs and budget.
